IPhone app for spoiled food

By Dawn Withers | The Packer

Not sure if all that food in your fridge is still good? There’s an app for that.

The StillTasty iPhone app helps take the guesswork out of whether that two-week old produce is still good to eat.

The application allows users to type a food or beverage name into StillTasty's search engine to find out how long it lasts and whether you should keep it or toss it, according to a news release.

The program, developed by StillTasty LLC, was launched in February with the aim of providing one central place for consumers to access food safety information for a broad variety of foods and beverages, according to a news release.

Some of the other features of the app allow users to be altered when their food expires and create shopping lists, according to the news release. StillTasty's content also incorporates research from state government agencies as well as several non-profit organizations and associations that conduct studies on food storage and safety, according to the release.

StillTasty uses information from food and beverage manufacturers on optimal storage methods for specific foods and details on storage times as they pertain to both food safety and food quality.

StillTasty is now available in the iPhone App Store for $1.99.
