Bill would OK owners' use of raw milk

Article from

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The House has passed legislation that supports owners' use of raw milk for personal consumption.

The measure sponsored by Republican Rep. Frank Niceley of Strawberry Plains was unanimously approved on Thursday.

State agriculture officials say it was already legal for owners to drink milk from their animals, but the issue has been with purchasing it.

Niceley says his legislation makes a way for a person who wants to drink raw milk to legally buy it from a small farmer by purchasing a share of the animal.

The companion bill is awaiting a vote on the Senate floor.
