RE: National Small Farm Lobby Day and Legislative Reception

Washington DC—Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte will address the second annual National Small Farm Lobby Day and legislative reception in Washington, DC on March 5th, from 12:00 to 12:50, in Room 1302 of the Longworth House Office Building.  The National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association (NICFA) hosts the grassroots event for U.S. Congressmen and Senators.

"It is our goal to reach our legislators with the benefits of our rich culture of heritage farming and how the USDA’s proposed National Animal ID System and Premises Registration would work against our country's farming tradition," says Deborah Stockton, Executive Director of NICFA.

State affiliates and other farmer and consumer groups, such as the Weston A. Price Foundation--a non-profit nutrition advocacy group, the National Family Farms Coalition, The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, and Communities Alliance for Responsible Eco-Farming, will join with NICFA.    Hundreds of small-scale, independent farmers and their customers from around the country are expected at the event.

Speakers include Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte and Joel Salatin, nationally recognized small farmer and expert on sustainable farming.  Presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul of Texas has also been invited to speak.

“This grassroots event puts a face on small farming issues that affect health and prosperity of farm communities. Congress is used to dealing with faceless multi-national industrial agriculture corporations.  Traditional family farmers and the people who depend on them want to be real to legislators,“ said Stockton.
